Fractions
There are three types of fractions. The proper fraction has the smallest number
on the top and the large number on the bottom.
There is another type of fraction called improper fraction. In this case the large number is the
numerator and the smallest is the denominator.
And the last one, a mixed fraction is a whole number and a proper
fraction combined.
You change an improper fraction to a mixed fraction by dividing
the numerator by denominator. The
quotient needs to be the whole number and the remainder is the new
numerator. And the denominator stays the
same.
If you want to change a mixed fraction to a proper fraction
you multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator. Then write your answer. The total when you add the whole number to the numerator goes on the top and the denominator stays the same.
